Find out how to choose the right distribution board Selecting the right distribution board for your commercial building is a crucial part of the electrical installation process. It assists in controlling the incoming power throughout the building to prevent electrical overloads in your system. IPD works with their customers to build custom solutions by working alongside them to understand their building’s needs and ensuring compliance with the latest industry standards. Helping you choose a solution that is right for you: There are four key elements to be addressed when choosing the right solution for your commercial building. Where will the distribution board be installed? The installation position of a distribution board will determine what level of dust and waterproofing is require, as well as what material it is made from and if any accessories are required. How many circuits are there? The number of outgoing circuits determine the number of poles required, for example standard or RCD protected single phase circuits will need 1 pole each and three phase circuits will need 3 poles each for a standard circuit. Don’t forget to consider future expansion when determining the number of poles that will be required. What is the load and the total amount of current required for each circuit? You need to know what the load actually is in order to determine if you require MCB or RCBO protection. Each circuit will have a maximum load current amount required. It is important to know the total amount of current you require for each circuit to select the appropriate size of protection device. Is a main switch required? If the board can be isolated at a nearby location like a main board, then a main switch may not be required. Whether a main switch is required may also be determined by the state or supply authority wiring rules. Once these elements have been determined, the IPD team will be able to assist you in choosing a cost-effective distribution board while ensuring that all required components that you will need are included for maximum performance. Introducing the Evolution compact distribution board The Evolution compact distribution boards provide greater flexibility in their design by reducing the space above the main switch to allow for more poles within a smaller box. The compact boards are available in the Evolution E43 (suitable for all indoor applications), E65 (with improved performance when used outdoors) and E66 (suitable for exposed outdoor, corrosive atmosphere or washdown situations). All boards in the Evolution range are designed for ABB System pro M S200 range protection devices to assist in the overall safety of your distribution board.
